Something I’ve been trying to do for a while is to get some shots of my and my girlfriend’s family. So, after months of planning, I managed to assemble everyone in the right place at the right time for a 2 hour marathon shoot. With all the various family members, and some friends for good measure, I had 22 people turn up (not quite in the same league as the Hitchin Christian Centre Nativity events where I regularly shoot over 100 people – see the photos from 2015 here), but still a challenge especially since I wanted to spend time with each group and do something different for each.
February started with a flurry of activity this year with a surprise 70th birthday party to cover! 70th Birthday parties seem to be a recurring theme, and having covered a few recently, I was very pleased to be invited to shoot Sandra’s 70th birthday celebration at the Canary Club in Hitchin. This shoot was very definitely a surprise for the Birthday girl who arrived at her own party blindfold! Continue reading
Christmas is a time for families, and Lorraine and Paul were definitely putting their families first as part of their Wedding Ceremony in Hitchin’s Sun Hotel. Lorraine and Paul brought together all the people who were important to them (including flying some in from Australia) to make sure their Christmas wedding a special event. Continue reading
Mid December marks one of my regular dates; the Hitchin Christian Centre Nativity shoot. This is firm favourite event for me and as Matt Summerfield (the senior Pastor of Hitchin Christian Centre) said is now a “Christmas Tradition!”. Each year the Christian Centre runs a series of nativity services to celebrate the Christmas story, however this year their plans to host the event in the grounds of Hitchin Priory had to be cancelled at the very last-minute, and so the service was moved back into their Church on Bedford Road. Fortunately I was able to accommodate the change of date and venue, and organised a straight-forward portrait shoot for them.
I always say repeat jobs are my favourite kind of work; a) because you know the people and can really start to build relationships, and b) because it shows the customer is happy with my work and wants me back. Since this is the 7th project I’ve done for Hitchin Historical society and 4th book launch I assume I’m doing something right.
One of my regular annual shoots is the nativity celebration at Hitchin Christian Centre (click to see the nativity photos from 2013 and 2014), however a few weeks ago they asked me if I’d be able to cover another event for them in April. This time they’d planned a family fun day to take place in the market square in Hitchin.
One of the things that marks the start of Christmas for me is my regular trip to help out with the Hitchin Christian Centre’s Nativity celebration. This year the theme of the services is “The Big Celebration”, and as in previous years I was asked to run a fun photo shoot for the congregation to remember the day.
It’s always good to get a repeat job, and to be asked back to cover another Hitchin Symphony Orchestra concert gives the added bonus of the chance to listen to some fantastic classical music. Continue reading
I was recently approached by Encompass Creative – a marketing and design company based in Essex – who were producing a sales brochure as part of the redevelopment of the old post office building in Hitchin. Encompass were looking for a series of shots showing off the highlights of Hitchin including St Mary’s Church, the market place and some of the local parks as a way to show case what a great place to live Hitchin is.
After over a year’s work the 2015 Hitchin Initiative Calendar was launched in Hitchin’s market square. Continue reading
