During possibly the only dry week all summer I found myself travelling down to Epsom and the curiously named “Rubbing House” pub to shoot an 80’th birthday celebration. All birthday’s are special but this 80th birthday was particularly special for the birthday girl Christine because all 4 of her son’s, her 8 grand children and 2 great grand children were able celebrate with her along with many of her family and friends. Something I’ve been trying to do for a while is to get some shots of my and my girlfriend’s family. So, after months of planning, I managed to assemble everyone in the right place at the right time for a 2 hour marathon shoot. With all the various family members, and some friends for good measure, I had 22 people turn up (not quite in the same league as the Hitchin Christian Centre Nativity events where I regularly shoot over 100 people – see the photos from 2015 here), but still a challenge especially since I wanted to spend time with each group and do something different for each.
Mid December marks one of my regular dates; the Hitchin Christian Centre Nativity shoot. This is firm favourite event for me and as Matt Summerfield (the senior Pastor of Hitchin Christian Centre) said is now a “Christmas Tradition!”. Each year the Christian Centre runs a series of nativity services to celebrate the Christmas story, however this year their plans to host the event in the grounds of Hitchin Priory had to be cancelled at the very last-minute, and so the service was moved back into their Church on Bedford Road. Fortunately I was able to accommodate the change of date and venue, and organised a straight-forward portrait shoot for them.
This weekend brought a request to do a quick portrait shoot for a couple to celebrate their 40th Wedding Anniversary, so set-up my studio in Hitchin and set about pulling together a few shots. Continue reading
Following on from a portrait session and celebration lunch shoot I recently ran for Tesco (see those photographs here Tesco Portrait shoot, Tesco Celebration Lunch), one of my subjects asked me to do a family shoot for herself and 10 family members, including her Brother who was visiting from Singapore. The challenge with this shoot was much more about choosing a date when everyone was available, rather that the practicalities of the shoot itself. A Tuesday evening in July was the only suitable day so plans were made based on that. Continue reading
One of my regular annual shoots is the nativity celebration at Hitchin Christian Centre (click to see the nativity photos from 2013 and 2014), however a few weeks ago they asked me if I’d be able to cover another event for them in April. This time they’d planned a family fun day to take place in the market square in Hitchin.
Following the recent family portrait shoot for Paul’s 70th birthday (Click here), I was invited back to cover his second 70th Birthday celebration in the beautiful Priory Hotel in Hitchin. For this event Paul had hired a number of reception rooms and I was asked to take some formal and candid photos of the 60 or so guests who had come along to celebrate with him.
Characters are what make portrait photography fun, and it was great to work with a family of characters celebrating a 70th Birthday. Continue reading
I’m always looking to expand my repertoire and experience so when presented with opportunity to develop my portrait skills for a toddler I jumped at the opportunity. Continue reading
