The middle of March took me to a venue I’ve known about for some time, but never actually done a shoot in; the Novotel in Stevenage. For this shoot I’d been asked to attend Alex and Aly’s engagement party.
During the run up to Peter and Susan’s wedding in September 2015, I knew that Susan was working with the team at Archant to see whether she could have their wedding featured in the Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire & Bedfordshire Bride Magazine 2016. I discovered Susan had been successful when I found a double page spread in Bride magazine featuring my work!
It’s spring! Which for certain group of people can only mean only one thing… the start of the wrestling season! The first event in the Ultimate British Wrestling federation calendar was a match at Haynes in Bedfordshire and I was pleased to be invited to come along and cover the show for them. This was my third wrestling event with the UBW, and I have to admit I’m becoming a fan. Continue reading
Something I’ve been trying to do for a while is to get some shots of my and my girlfriend’s family. So, after months of planning, I managed to assemble everyone in the right place at the right time for a 2 hour marathon shoot. With all the various family members, and some friends for good measure, I had 22 people turn up (not quite in the same league as the Hitchin Christian Centre Nativity events where I regularly shoot over 100 people – see the photos from 2015 here), but still a challenge especially since I wanted to spend time with each group and do something different for each.
February started with a flurry of activity this year with a surprise 70th birthday party to cover! 70th Birthday parties seem to be a recurring theme, and having covered a few recently, I was very pleased to be invited to shoot Sandra’s 70th birthday celebration at the Canary Club in Hitchin. This shoot was very definitely a surprise for the Birthday girl who arrived at her own party blindfold! Continue reading
Christmas is a time for families, and Lorraine and Paul were definitely putting their families first as part of their Wedding Ceremony in Hitchin’s Sun Hotel. Lorraine and Paul brought together all the people who were important to them (including flying some in from Australia) to make sure their Christmas wedding a special event. Continue reading
Mid December marks one of my regular dates; the Hitchin Christian Centre Nativity shoot. This is firm favourite event for me and as Matt Summerfield (the senior Pastor of Hitchin Christian Centre) said is now a “Christmas Tradition!”. Each year the Christian Centre runs a series of nativity services to celebrate the Christmas story, however this year their plans to host the event in the grounds of Hitchin Priory had to be cancelled at the very last-minute, and so the service was moved back into their Church on Bedford Road. Fortunately I was able to accommodate the change of date and venue, and organised a straight-forward portrait shoot for them.
This week brought an interesting challenge. Nifty Audio Limited of Stevenage had a new product to launch, but despite their best efforts they hadn’t been able to produce photos that really showed off the item, so rather than spend more time, they called me to produce the photos for them. Continue reading
This week brought a last minute request to cover the launch of Hitchin Historic Society’s latest publication. The historical society is known for it’s books describing local history, however this launch event was for was a second volume of historic film clips on DVD, and also gave me the chance to meet former BBC newsreader and presenter Richard Whitmore. Continue reading
A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by a young artist Gerhard Symons with a rather unusual request. In celebration of what Gerhard believes is a world first, he’d commission a stained glass dedicated to Anton Bruckner’s 3rd Symphony, and was looking for someone to photograph the launch event. With such an unusual request how could I refuse? Continue reading
