This weekend brought a rather unusual assignment – a charity event with a difference. Lee Gibbs set himself the target of rowing a distance equivalent to half a marathon – over 21 Km (13.1 miles) – to raise money for the MS society, although this is an impressive and worthy feat in itself, what makes it remarkable is the Lee himself suffers from MS and NMO and needs a wheelchair to get around!
A warm and surprisingly sunny Saturday in August took me to the Chesterfield Downs golf club near Stevenage and the wedding of Sonja and Russell. This was a great day as I followed Sonja’s preparations from hair and make-up in the morning, through to the informal and relaxed wedding ceremony – where Abbie their daughter played a starring role as ring bearer – and then onto a chilled afternoon reception overlooking the rolling Hertfordshire countryside.
During possibly the only dry week all summer I found myself travelling down to Epsom and the curiously named “Rubbing House” pub to shoot an 80’th birthday celebration. All birthday’s are special but this 80th birthday was particularly special for the birthday girl Christine because all 4 of her son’s, her 8 grand children and 2 great grand children were able celebrate with her along with many of her family and friends. The wrestling season is in full swing and the next event I was asked to cover was a bout in Clifton, Bedfordshire. This was another fun packed evening with all the twists and turns you expect from an Ultimate British Wrestling event.
The middle of March took me to a venue I’ve known about for some time, but never actually done a shoot in; the Novotel in Stevenage. For this shoot I’d been asked to attend Alex and Aly’s engagement party.
During the run up to Peter and Susan’s wedding in September 2015, I knew that Susan was working with the team at Archant to see whether she could have their wedding featured in the Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire & Bedfordshire Bride Magazine 2016. I discovered Susan had been successful when I found a double page spread in Bride magazine featuring my work!
It’s spring! Which for certain group of people can only mean only one thing… the start of the wrestling season! The first event in the Ultimate British Wrestling federation calendar was a match at Haynes in Bedfordshire and I was pleased to be invited to come along and cover the show for them. This was my third wrestling event with the UBW, and I have to admit I’m becoming a fan. Continue reading
Something I’ve been trying to do for a while is to get some shots of my and my girlfriend’s family. So, after months of planning, I managed to assemble everyone in the right place at the right time for a 2 hour marathon shoot. With all the various family members, and some friends for good measure, I had 22 people turn up (not quite in the same league as the Hitchin Christian Centre Nativity events where I regularly shoot over 100 people – see the photos from 2015 here), but still a challenge especially since I wanted to spend time with each group and do something different for each.
February started with a flurry of activity this year with a surprise 70th birthday party to cover! 70th Birthday parties seem to be a recurring theme, and having covered a few recently, I was very pleased to be invited to shoot Sandra’s 70th birthday celebration at the Canary Club in Hitchin. This shoot was very definitely a surprise for the Birthday girl who arrived at her own party blindfold! Continue reading
Christmas is a time for families, and Lorraine and Paul were definitely putting their families first as part of their Wedding Ceremony in Hitchin’s Sun Hotel. Lorraine and Paul brought together all the people who were important to them (including flying some in from Australia) to make sure their Christmas wedding a special event. Continue reading
