I’m always looking to expand my repertoire and experience so when presented with opportunity to develop my portrait skills for a toddler I jumped at the opportunity.
A few days into the new year, I was contacted by Lee and Michelle, who’s wedding I shot in 2010, to get a few pictures of their 2 year old daughter (See Lee and Michelle’s wedding photos here). Our first attempt to meet up failed since Safiah was poorly, however we simply shifted everything back a week and met at my studio on the last weekend in January.
As usual I’d discussed the shoot beforehand and with Mum and Dad’s help worked out the best time for the shoot was early afternoon to fit in with Safiah’s eating and sleeping patterns so I could catch her at her best. We also set a time limit for the shoot so that we made sure we got all the shots we’d planned before Safiah got tired or bored.
I’d asked Mum to bring some of Safiah’s toys along including her favourite cuddly, however they weren’t needed in the end as Safiah was mesmerised by the studio lighting and quickly adapted to a new environment. As the shoot progressed to get some different shots I asked Mum to blow some bubbles which was worked particularly well, as Safiah stood still waiting for the bubbles and then exploded with excitement as they floated down around her.
